Terms and Conditions

You are buying a licence to use software, from a reseller, with 14 days to change your mind. The rest of this page is the detail behind that sentence, written to be read rather than skimmed past.

Who you are actually buying from

Warren Labs is a trade name of Free River Studios LLC, a Montana limited liability company, and Free River Studios LLC is the party licensing the software to you. It is also the name you will find on the code signature of every plugin you install, because that is the Apple Developer identity the builds are signed and notarized with.

Warren Labs makes the software. FastSpring is the merchant of record — the legal seller for the transaction. When you buy, your contract for the purchase is with FastSpring, and their terms govern payment, tax and the refund mechanics. They collect and remit sales tax and VAT, and their name is what appears on your statement and receipt.

Warren Labs licenses you the software itself, and that is what this page covers. Both relationships are real and they cover different things: FastSpring handles the money, we handle the product.

What you are buying

A licence to use the software, not the software itself and not its source code. The licence is permanent for the version you bought, and does not expire or need renewing. It is not a subscription and there is nothing to cancel.

What the licence lets you do

Install and use it on any machine you personally own or control — your studio, your laptop, a backup machine. Use it on paid, commercial work, with no royalty, no extra licence and no reporting. There is no seat count to manage and no activation limit to trip over on a deadline.

What it doesn't let you do

Resell, rent, redistribute or sublicense it. Share your licence file with anyone else, or publish it. Reverse-engineer, decompile or extract parts of it for use in another product. If you are buying for a team, buy a licence for each person; if that's awkward at your size, write to us and we'll work something out.

The licence file, and why it works the way it does

Your licence is a small signed .wllicense file you save to a folder on your machine. The plugin verifies it offline. It does not phone home, does not check in with a server, and will not stop working because we had an outage, changed providers, or stopped trading. It carries the name and email you bought with, which is what makes it yours and not transferable.

This is deliberate. Software you paid for should not depend on our servers still being there in ten years, and it does not.

This is beta software, and we mean it

The plugin line is in public beta. It is priced accordingly and it is honest work, but it will have bugs, some behaviour will change, and features may be added or reworked before 1.0. If you would rather wait for a finished product, wait — that is a reasonable thing to do and we would rather you did that than felt misled.

Updates

Updates within the version you bought are free, and we will email you when they land. We do not promise free upgrades to a future major version, and we won't pretend otherwise here so that we can quietly change our minds later. If that ever changes, buyers will be told directly, not by us editing this page.

Refunds

14 days, no questions asked. The details, including how to ask and what happens to your licence, are on the refund policy page.

What we don't promise

The software is provided as it is. We do not warrant that it is free of defects, that it will suit a particular purpose, or that it will be uninterrupted — no software vendor honestly can, and this one is a beta. To the extent the law allows, our liability is limited to what you paid for the licence.

That limit is a normal legal backstop, not a shrug. If the software damages a session or loses you work, tell us. We would rather fix it and make it right than point at this paragraph.

Your statutory rights

Nothing here removes rights the law gives you. If you are a consumer in the EU, the UK, or anywhere else with mandatory consumer protection, those rights apply on top of this page and override anything here that conflicts with them.

Changes to these terms

If we change this page, the change applies to purchases made after the change. It does not reach backwards into a licence you already bought. The date at the bottom is when it was last touched.

Governing law

Free River Studios LLC, trading as Warren Labs, operates from Livingston, Montana, United States, and these terms are governed by Montana law. Your separate purchase contract with FastSpring is governed by whatever their terms say, which you agree to at their checkout.
